Support for the reconstruction of Ukraine
Apr 7, 2025

In March, twenty representatives from Ukrainian regional administrations and the energy sectors visited the Tampere region. They came to learn how biomass and local waste streams can be used to produce heat and electricity. The delegation included representatives of Ukrainian energy companies and local governments from e.g. Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro Chernivtsi and Poltava.
Valmet co-hosted this delegation with two local utilities, Tampereen Energia and Nokianvirran Energia. The visit was initiated at ReBuild Ukraine event in Poland in November 2024 where also Valmet participated as part of Business Finland's joint stand.

The delegation toured Valmet's office and boiler workshop. In addition, they visited the Hervanta wood chip heating plant and the Naistenlahti biopower plant operated by Tampereen Energia, and Nokianvirran Energia's biopower plant. Notably, the Naistenlahti power plant was illuminated in Ukrainian colors for the duration of the visit.
"During the visit, we demonstrated how Valmet's energy production and emission control technologies could be applicable to the reconstruction of Ukraine's energy system. The Ukrainian delegation showed particular interest in utilizing local fuels, such as forest and agricultural residues. Valmet's extensive experience with different fuels, including the hundreds of fuel tests conducted at our Tampere pilot plant, offers valuable expertise. Our fluidized bed boiler technology allows for the combination of various fuels and provides the flexibility necessary to ensure a reliable energy supply," says Jussi Orhanen, Business Development Manager in Pulp and Energy.
The group's program also included short presentations from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Finnvera, the Confederation of Finnish Industries, and Wärtsilä in Helsinki.
