Enhancing PM7 operational stability through on-site vibration analysis
When abnormal vibration was detected at the PM7 4P roll position, Jeonju Paper in South Korea needed to quickly determine the root cause to avoid the risk of escalating mechanical issues and unplanned maintenance. Understanding the source of the issue was important to maintain stable operation and support effective maintenance planning. To identify the most effective corrective action, Jeonju Paper engaged Valmet's specialists for an on-site technical assessment.

On-site vibration analysis
To identify the source of the vibration, Valmet combined local service expertise with specialized condition monitoring and vibration analysis expertise. Valmet roll service and vibration analysis specialist in Asia Pacific, Anuchit Kamlangdee, joined the local service team for the assessment. Together, the team conducted vibration measurements and a detailed assessment of the PM7 drive system.
By combining field service expertise with vibration measurement data, the team identified the universal joint as the most likely source of the vibration. Rather than relying on trial-and-error troubleshooting, Jeonju Paper received a clear diagnosis and a focused report and recommendation. Based on the findings, the mill replaced the universal joint to address the issue at its source.
Stable operation restored
Following the replacement, the vibration was eliminated and stable operation at the PM7 4P roll position was restored.
The on-site analysis enabled Jeonju Paper to make maintenance decisions with confidence and focus resources on the most effective corrective action. With a clear understanding of the root cause, the mill was able to eliminate the vibration and restore stable operation.
